Handwriting conversion improvements, local treatment planning in Secure, and thoughtful updates to the details of everyday practice.
Practice Pad 1.3.0 is now available.
This release brings improvements to how you convert and review handwritten notes, adds local treatment planning to the Secure plan, and makes it easier to see which community templates you’ve already installed. It also includes important fixes to document exports, account handling, and subscription recovery.
Whether you use Practice Pad on its own or connect it to Google Workspace, here’s what’s new.
Handwriting conversion with clinical vocabulary in mind
Clinical notes have their own vocabulary. Treatment approaches, assessment names, and shorthand such as “Hx,” “Ct,” and “SO” sit alongside ordinary sentences.
Practice Pad 1.3.0 brings the vocabulary used during handwriting recognition and the vocabulary used to suggest possible corrections into one shared list. Both steps now draw from the same clinical terms. The update also refines how possible misreads are flagged, including certain acronym and longer-word variations.
English-language recognition is now explicitly selected rather than automatically detected. This addresses cases where short handwritten entries could be interpreted in an unintended language.
Behind the scenes, the update changes how handwriting images are prepared for conversion, using a consistent export scale and an image-size limit.
The workflow stays familiar: write with Apple Pencil, convert your handwriting, then review and edit the text.
Clearer information while you review
The recognition confidence display has been refined so its percentage is readable and its low-confidence indication agrees with the accompanying review message.
Confidence describes the recognizer’s certainty, not whether your note is correct. A high percentage can still accompany a misread word. Your review remains the final step in making sure the text says what you intended.
Practice Pad’s possible-misread suggestions provide another opportunity to check the wording while keeping the text under your control.
Create and share treatment plans with Secure
You don’t need Google Workspace to use Practice Pad’s Secure plan. With 1.3.0, Secure users can now create and edit treatment plans locally on their iPad and export a copy using Share PDF.
The plan supports diagnosis, presenting problem, goals, objectives, interventions, and treatment frequency. Save your changes, then generate a PDF through the iPad’s share sheet when you need a copy.
This release also fixes treatment-plan PDF rendering so saved presenting-problem and treatment-frequency information appears in the exported document.
For clinicians who want a standalone documentation workflow, local treatment planning expands what they can do within Practice Pad.
An experience that better matches your plan
Several screens have been adjusted to present actions appropriate to your subscription.
Secure users receive local sharing options where supported, and Drive-only actions have been removed from places where they could not work. Guidance around copying note text also now reflects whether Google Drive is actually connected.
For Cloud users who switch Google accounts, Google Workspace BAA attestation records are now stored separately for each account on the device.
These changes make the available actions and account information more consistent with your setup.
See which templates you already have
For Cloud users browsing the Community Template Library, template cards now show an Installed indicator for templates already in your collection.
When you return to the library, you can distinguish templates you’ve added from those still available to install. It’s a small change that makes browsing the collection easier.
Important fixes to signing and subscription handling
Version 1.3.0 corrects how unsigned session notes are represented in PDF exports. Unsigned notes are identified as drafts, and final export to Google Drive requires the note to be signed.
The release also fixes subscription recovery when a purchase-status check fails. Practice Pad retains the previously saved subscription tier and retries, instead of treating that failed check as a downgrade and clearing the Google connection and sync queue.
