You don't have to leave SimplePractice, Jane, or TherapyNotes to stop typing your notes into it. Sync your existing calendar into Practice Pad, handwrite the note, and paste or export it straight back.

Let me describe a very specific person, because I've been one. You run on SimplePractice, Jane, or TherapyNotes — maybe by choice, maybe because your group practice picked it — and it does its job. It bills, it schedules, it holds your calendar, and switching would be a genuine ordeal you have no appetite for. You're not shopping for a new EHR.
What you can't stand is the documentation part. You handwrite during sessions because that's what keeps you present, and then you sit down and re-key every note into the EHR's little text box. The platform is fine. The retyping is the problem. And every "alternative" you've looked at wants you to rip out the whole system to solve one annoying step.
You don't need to. You need to bolt a better capture step onto the EHR you already have — and keep everything else exactly as it is.
The bridge is your calendar feed. SimplePractice, Jane, TherapyNotes, and most other platforms can publish your schedule as a standard iCal (.ics) feed — the same open format Google Calendar and Apple Calendar speak. Practice Pad's Secure tier subscribes to that feed, so your day's appointments show up in the app without any integration to build or any data leaving your EHR beyond the calendar you already publish.
Point Practice Pad at your EHR's iCal (.ics) feed. Your appointments appear, so each note starts attached to the right session.
Write the note with Apple Pencil; on-device OCR turns it into structured, editable text. Nothing leaves the iPad to do it.
Tap Copy Note Text and paste into your EHR's note field, or export a PDF. The finished record lands where your billing already lives.
That's the whole loop. Your EHR stays your system of record for scheduling and billing. Practice Pad is just the part where the note gets written well and fast, without the second typing pass.
If you're staying on your EHR, you probably don't want another cloud in the mix, and you don't have to add one. The Secure tier, at $15 a month, is built for exactly this: it captures and converts entirely on your device, and gets notes out by clipboard or PDF — with no Google Workspace sync at all. Your notes are encrypted on the iPad, protected behind biometric lock, and they leave only when you paste or export them into the system you've chosen.
Because there's no automatic sync to a Practice Pad server — there is no such server holding your notes — the app's footprint on your data is deliberately tiny. It's a capture tool that hands the record straight to you.
It doesn't bill, submit claims, schedule, run telehealth, or host a client portal. Your EHR keeps doing all of that. Practice Pad handles one job — turning your handwriting into a filed, typed note — and then gets out of the way. The calendar sync is read-only convenience, not a two-way integration, and the export is manual by design so you stay in control of what goes into the record.
If that sounds narrow, it's meant to. The whole pitch is that you don't have to migrate anything. You keep the platform your practice runs on, and you retire exactly one chore.
The Secure tier syncs your calendar in and hands finished notes back by clipboard or PDF — no platform switch, no second cloud.
